New Year's Eve at Dreamworld
| 31 December
Known for its million dollar scream machines and the first stop for adrenalin junkies, Dreamworld will fuse rock and rides this New Years Eve with a cracking line-up of some of the coolest alternate bands to countdown to 2010.
Birds of Tokyo, Regurgitator and British India are among the six local and international bands set to propel music fans into 2010 in a collaboration that sees the promoters of Sounds of Spring put some underground beat into the theme park hailed for a thumping good time.
Dreamworld will open the gates for NYE at 7.00pm.
Kicking off the gig is The Inspector Cluzo, a two piece French duo known for mixing funk and rock to 70’s grooves. Local Brisbane band I Heart Hiroshima will follow playing sets from their newly released album, The Rip. Mammal, are then scheduled to step up and perform their hard rock and blistering live stage performance.
Next is British India, the garage band described as “hotter than vindaloo” after exploding onto the Australian scene in 2007 with their first album, Guillotine and then following up in 2008 with the release of Thieves, which debuted at number five on the ARIA charts.
With more than a decade of live performance, multiple ARIA awards and a formidable catalogue of songs under their belt, perennial crowd favourites and local boys, Regurgitator will add some punky pop and humourous lyrics to the night.
Headlining the party and taking fans beyond the midnight countdown are Birds of Tokyo, the Perth-based rock band hailed for their soaring vocal melodies and a driving rhythm section. After the release of their debut album, Day One in 2007 the band went onto achieve Gold status in early 2009 with Universes, debuting at number three on the Australian charts.
Their raw energy will be matched only by a massive explosion of fireworks at midnight.
In between bands, music fans will be able to flip, spin, and tumble on some of some of the fiercest, white-knuckle rides on the planet including the tallest freefall ride in the world, The Giant Drop, and The Wipe Out, a massive 40 seat gondola described as riding a tidal wave strapped to an arm chair.
Adrenalin junkies keen on pumping more action into the evening can hire a Q4U device to reserve their place in ride queue lines from anywhere in the park, including the mosh pit.
